RNC spends over $1,ooo,ooo.oo dollars on Scozzafava... And this is the thanks they get for their support… she endorses Owens… a Democrat! Don Coon, the Jefferson County Republican Chairman, must be livid right about now and he's likely not the only one upset at the turn of events that has developed over the past 72 hours. I wonder if the local RNC committeemen within the 23rd district blame Hoffman (a solid lifelong Republican) for this fiasco... Dede?… Or themselves? I’ll wager that some of the select 11 committeemen involved in her selection blame the majority of registered Republicans within our district for backing Hoffman against their wishes… “What, you're not voting party line?” I think some resignations are in order.
Back when Dede was selected as the choice to run for McHugh’s seat in congress, I was not only shocked but immediately started to express my misgivings of her ‘selection’ with several individuals; Don Coon and Mayor Graham being just a couple of those I had ‘conversations’ with. I had said, “What are you guys thinking? Dede may wear clothes with a Republican pin attached to her lapel… but remove the clothing and she is a Democrat underneath it all. Just a note here… Mr. Coon was just a committeeman and not the ‘chairperson’ at the time of Dede’s appointment. He has since been elected as Jefferson counties RNC Chairman and was obligated to support Dede regardless of his personal beliefs concerning her selection. He now fully endorses Doug Hoffman as does Mayor Graham. The left-leaning Watertown Daily Times gleefully endorsed Dede (why not, since her status as a Republican allowed them to present a balanced image of themselves to counter accusations of their left-leaning positions on many issues). They now of course fully endorse Owens, as does Dede, displaying for all to see their true beliefs… complete with left-leaning editorials, within a district that consists largely of ‘conservative’ residents that has voted Republican since the Civil War.
The Watertown Daily Times, among others supportive of Dede and Owens, have lamented that this special election should be about ‘local issues’ and that the ‘national’ attention towards the 23rd special election is out of sync with our supposed personal issues of local concern. While in essence, a Representative for Upstate NY should be concerned with local issues, they should be more concerned with the effects that national issues will have on our local beliefs and economy. For instance: Obama Care (a single payer health care plan?); please Mr. Gorman, explain to your readers how being mandated to pay upwards of $200 per month or more per family for socialized health insurance is a good thing when many can barely afford to keep gas in their cars, pay their car insurance or make their monthly rent or mortgage payments. How is this expense going to affect small and medium sized business here in the 23rd district? Card Check (Dede’s husband’s favorite subject); please Mr. Gorman, explain to local businesses how this is going to be beneficial to our local economy. The card check bill is strongly opposed by the US Chamber of Commerce. Its poorly-worded socialist agenda could drive thousands of businesses out of business. Cap and Trade; wow… this will certainly help the local economy (not!) Cap and Trade will cost homeowners thousands of dollars more a year for their heating and power... and areas like Upstate NY that already have high energy bills will be paying the lion's share of the cost! These are just some of the issues likely to be voted on within the next six months in Congress… and Owens is in favor of all of the above being legislated into law. Not to mention higher taxes across the board. Of course Owens will be good for us up here in the North Country... not. Hoffman is the only choice and has always been the only choice to counter the ‘Pelosi’ dictated House of Representatives. I am equally certain Hoffman will make the right decisions and choices on matters of genuine local concern. Despite flying accusations to the contrary, Doug Hoffman was born and raised in this district (in Saranac Lake) and operates businesses in the district as well.
