We’ve been playing the song
“It Did” on Froggy 97 for awhile now; I’ve been wondering if a
video was ever going to materialize. Well.. it did!
Blaine Larsen, a native of
Tacoma, Washington, was born on February 20, 1986. He looks like Doogie
Houser. I mean Doogie, back in the day, not the older Neil Patrick Harris.
Seriously. Blaine is gonna be getting “carded” until he’s 40.
Anyway, the young singer was
introduced to country music by his stepfather, Woody, at age five. By
age ten, he was a little karaoke king. When he was thirteen, he learned
to play guitar. His family moved to Nashville when Blaine was a junior
in high school. Somewhere in the midst of all this, his voice changed,
its deep resonance belying his cherubic baby face.
Blaine recorded a demo CD comprised
mostly of cover tunes. It caught the ears of established songwriters
Tim Johnson and Rory Lee Feek (of Joey and Rory fame). They rushed him
into the recording studio. In 2004, Blaine’s first album, In My
High School, was released on the writers’ own record label, Giantslayer
Records. It wasn’t a blockbuster, but it made enough of a blip on
the radar to catch the attention of a major label. BNA signed Blaine
the following year. They re-released
In My High School with a new title, Off to Join the World,
tacking on an additional “bonus song” in the process. “How Do
You Get That Lonely,” a song about suicide, proved to be Blaine’s
breakout single, peaking at #18. He followed it up with the #36 “The
Best Man,” a song he wrote about his stepfather. The latter tune,
perhaps because of its similarity to “He Didn’t Have to Be,” drew
comparisons to Brad Paisley.
In 2006, Blaine’s second
album, Rockin’ You Tonight, was released. The biggest hit off
this record was an uptempo tune called “I Don't Know What She Said.”
It reached a peak position of #24. Despite its success (and getting
an opening slot on tour with Gretchen Wilson), it didn’t make Blaine
a household name.
As of 2008, Blaine’s musical
home is on the Treehouse record label, founded by his management company.
He’s completed recording a new album. A release date has yet to be
announced.
Although he didn’t write
it (Jim Collins and Marv Green did), Blaine’s latest single, “It
Did” is an uncanny reflection of his own life. He says it paints the
perfect picture of his happy family; wife Jenny and baby daughter Zoe.
Interesting to note that the
song was originally recorded by that guy Blaine keeps getting compared
to; it first appeared on Brad Paisley’s 5th
Gear CD in 2007.
